Great stuff, Raf. Definitely gonna need that app for my trip.

So are you taking a phone photo first before the film photo to get the info in your log app?

Thanks for asking, Alicia! I’ve been wanting to talk about this so much with someone! I want to create a post talking about my workflow with the app, and how can it get better (smartwatch integration, etc).

So, answering your question: I don’t take a sidecar reference picture not for every analog shot. Just when I load the film (I take like the first 2 or 3), and when change locations, so it’s easier to sync up later when I see them dev&scanned. The app I’m using integrates with another app that is a light meter, so if my camera didn’t have a light meter, I would use the shot from the light meter app to log the shot (which would give me aperture and shutter speed as well).

It’s lots of metadata and cataloging work, but I love to get the EXIF in my Lr, at least camera, lens and film stock! Location is something also very precious to have when traveling! It helps a lot on creating content by remembering where the shot was taken. For medium format I also manually note shutter speed and aperture. The whole process takes me additional 6-8 seconds per shot, as there are shortcuts to open the app straight from the Lock Screen on the phone!

Thanks for the explanation! - I manually log my shots in either a small notebook or the Notes app on my phone, but yours sounds much more extensive. - I know the light meter app I use does have a corresponding log app, but I have yet to explore it. - I look forward to your in-depth article!

Awesome!! Knowing there’s people interested in reading makes me excited! :)

I’ll already start writing it for when the Japan photodump is over!

You are making me feel bad because I don’t put any meta data for my analogue pics 😆. Beautiful pictures, Raf. Seems like that Japan trip was a blast 👌🏻
