For the museum and mansion, I used a Portra 400 at box speed, I should have pushed it or used Portra 800 for the task, but for the garden, I had plenty of sunlight, and it was time for the Ektar 100 to shine!
I love Ektar 100 blues. From all film stocks, it’s the one that renders the most gorgeous blue tones, I even put this in the review I did in the past:
The Garden
George Eastman was passionate about gardening and agriculture, developing that passion on 10 acres of land at his East Avenue mansion. This is remarkable given his fame as a photography pioneer, the gardens were genuinely important to him.
What most strikes me is the fact that the garden was deliberately designed the be used as photography backdrops, and the options of flowers and plants were chosen to pair well with Kodak film stocks palletes. That’s why I think it’s interesting to run this over Ektar 100. I feel I needed to shoot Ektar as an anonymous love letter to the man himself. Using his product at his garden, almost 100 years later he invented it, such an ode!
A perfect paradise for the film photographer. Imagine how happy I was.
It is absolutely outstanding. The gardens feel like an extension of Eastman's visual sensibility, and I am glad I could portrait this well in here.
