It's easier to navigate confrontations when you know your rights. Never physically engage.
This question comes up in every workshop, livestream, and class I teach about street photography, so I decided to write it down as a reference for future conversations. I’ll skip the legal jargon and keep things straightforward. Everything below applies to United States legislation, with a focus on New York, where I photograph most often.
