California van life, road trip, Highway 1, and coffee (with halation, please!)
More photos and less text this time. Shoot more, think less.
Hi dear readers!
These days I was navigating through Substack notes, and my friend Victoria remembered me to post the rest of the photos of my California October trip. I've been busy with some work stuff recently, also doing gym, which is consuming lots of my time and energy.
Alright! Starting with Mavericks. or one of the most famous and dangerous big wave surfing spots in the world, located about half a mile offshore from Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay, California, roughly 25 miles south of San Francisco.
See the rocks on the left side of the picture?
Mavericks is dangerous for several reasons that come together to create extreme conditions. The waves themselves can reach 25 to 60 feet during winter swells. The break sits over a uniquely shaped underwater rock formation that causes waves to jack up suddenly and unpredictably. This means surfers have very little time to react.
Who told me that? My friend Vinicius, and Berenice (it's his van's name).
We continued on Highway 1, going South, with the Pacific Ocean on the right side, and vegetation on the left, on a beautiful and rare (for the season) day.
Barbara's Fishtrap, Vini told me this is one of the best fish and chips restaurant around. We ate in another restaurant, though.
Finally, coffee van time, with halation, of course.

Thanks, I'm glad I reminded you about the California trip - these are so cool! I'm not a surfer so I had no idea about Mavericks. I like that shot of Vinicius looking out to the ocean. I always associate California with hazy ocean shots.
